Low muscle tone
Low muscle tone is a feature relating to certain persisting infant reflexes. It can cause delays in motor development in a baby such as delays in rolling. sitting and walking.
In older children it appears to be muscle weakness and can show as poor posture, wanting to lie down, lean and physically rest.
It interferes with the development of fluidity of movement and development of strength. It is tiring for a child to be in the same position for long periods of time. Movements can appear floppy and heavy. Resistance to active sport and avoidance can be a feature.
The reflexes that relate to these features also have an impact on efficiency of learning and physical skills. It is important that the underlying reflex issues are remedied.
